Alcohol and Me
For most people, drinking more than the low-risk drinking limits below are considered to be at-risk drinkers.
Problem drinkers are people who drink more than the low-risk drinking limits and also have one or more alcohol-related problems or adverse events.
Dependent drinkers are persons who are unable to control their alcohol use, have experienced one or more adverse consequences of alcohol use, and have evidence or tolerance or withdrawal.
Why are the recommendations different for men and women? Women process alcohol differently than men due to their differing body make-up and, on average, lower body weight.
