McNair Project: The Use Of Technological Communication of Co-parents during COVID-19 (2023)

Mentor: Melinda Markham, Ph.D.

The current study was designed to understand the benefits of technological communication between co-parents and the effect the COVID-19 pandemic had on communication between co-parents. The study utilized interviews from an ongoing study with a sample of 12 participants. Participants were recruited after completing an online divorce education program. Technological communication helps co-parents have clarity while communicating and understand the emotional response between co-parents and the aspects of co-parent relationships that were affected by COVID-19. This study helps understand why parents use certain forms of technological communication and why some forms of technological communication are more useful in certain areas. Therefore, this information can aid in new communication techniques for co-parents.
