Nathan Nordstedt, junior in Horticultural Sciences, has been awarded a Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in the Czech Republic, at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, during Spring 2015. The Gilman awards up to $5,000 to support undergraduate study abroad around the world. Click here to read more about his success.

July 31: Amanda Braun, junior in Secondary Education and Biology, has been awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant, one of only fifty students nationwide. PKP Study Abroad Grants provide $1,000 in support of study abroad, and Amanda will use the grant to study abroad in Brazil.

hardman lekie July 30: Two K-State students have been named as Cargill Global Scholars for the coming year: Kylie Hardman (left), sophomore in Human Resource Management, and Sierra Lekie (right), sophomore in Political Science. Only ten U.S. students were selected as Cargill Global Scholars, and the award provides mentorship and leadership development opportunities, in addition to scholarship funding.

Jenny Barriga June 5: Good news for Jenny Barriga, May 2014 graduate in Chemistry and Biochemistry. She has been awarded a $5,000 Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for her first year in graduate school. Each chapter of Phi Kappa Phi can only nominate one student to compete nationally, and only 51 students awarded Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowships each year from this highly selective pool.

Adam Miller June 1: Congratulations to Adam Miller, recent MA graduate in Spanish Language Acquisition and former Admission Representative for K-State, has won a Fulbright U.S. Student grant for 2014-15. The Fulbright fully funds a year abroad in almost any country. Adam will use the award to work as an English Teaching Assistant in Argentina.

Aaron Melby June 1: Aaron Melby, May 2013 graduate in History, has been awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship through the European Union (EU) to pursue an International Masters in Russian, Central and East European Studies through a consortium of European schools. He will begin his studies in Fall 2014 at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Erasmus Mundus awards fund study at a wide of multi-university, interdisciplinary programs in EU countries.

Khiana Harris May 25: Khiana Harris, senior in Psychology and Anthropology, has been awarded a Gilman International Scholarship for Summer 2014. The Gilman provides up to $5000 for undergraduate study abroad. Khiana will journey to Japan with help from the Gilman award.

Jacob Schroeder May 25: Jacob Schroeder, junior in Chemistry, has been awarded a US-UK Fulbright Summer Institute award for Summer 2014. These highly competitive awards fully fund, including travel costs, a summer experience in the United Kingdom at one of nine different locations. Jacob will attend the Scotland Summer Institute, splitting time between the University of Dundee and the University of Strathclyde.

Melissa Lynes Hedieh Shadmani May 22: Two K-Staters have been invited to participate in the Lindau Nobel Laureates meeting in Lindau Germany this summer where they will have the chance to meet with other promising young economists and nearly 20 Nobel Laureates. Melissa (left) is a doctoral student in Agricultural Economics. Hedieh (right) is a doctoral student in Economics.

Adam Summers May 16: Adam Summers, doctoral student in Physics, has been awarded a prestigious National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate Fellowship. The NDSEG award, which supports students doing research in areas of interest to the Department of Defense, will provide tuition/fees and an average stipend of $31,000 per year for three years total funding.

Ross Allen April 22: Kudos to Ross Allen, junior in Economics and Philosophy. He has been recognized as a Truman Scholar for 2014, one of only 59 students nationally. The Truman provides up to $30,000 for graduate study leading to careers in public service. K-State students have won more Truman Scholarships (34) than students from any other state university.

Christine Spartz Max Goering April 2: Congratulations to Christine Spartz, junior in Chemistry, and Max Goering, senior in Mathematics. They have both been recognized as Goldwater Scholars for 2014. The Goldwater is the premier scholarship for undergraduates in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. Only about 300 are selected nationally each year. K-State students have won 71 Goldwater Scholars since the award was established, more than any other state university.

April 1: NSF Graduate Fellowship results have been released for 2014. Three current K-State students were recognized as Honorable Mention: Emma Brace, senior in Biological & Agricultural Engineering; Clint Gregory, doctoral student in Biology; and Adam Summers, doctoral student in Physics. Two K-State alums, now in graduate program elsewhere, were awarded the NSF Graduate Fellowship: Donte Bernard, Psychology; and James Craven, Horticulture. One alumnus in attendance elsewhere, Jeffrey Bryant in Microbiology, was also recognized as Honorable Mention. Congratulations to all for their recognition and success.

Micah Wilcher December 4, 2013: Micah Wilcher, senior in History, has been awarded a Gilman International Scholarship for Spring 2014. The Gilman awards up to $5000 in support of undergraduate study abroad. Micah will spend the spring semester studying at the University of Ghana. Note: we have now added a photo that she took while in Ghana.
