Udall Undergraduate Scholarship
Award details
The Udall Scholarship is an award that recognizes undergraduates who are passionate about either of two issues that were strongly supported by Morris and Steward Udall. The Udalls were champions on the environment and Native American issues. The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship is available to Native American students who are committed to careers in tribal policy or tribal healthcare; OR students from any background who are committed to careers related to the environment or sustainability.
The Udall Scholarship provides
- Access to the Udall Alumni Network: an association of change-makers working in Indian country and environmental fields sharing innovative ideas, professional advice, and job and internship opportunities.
- Participation at Scholar Orientation: extending your professional network, meeting other Scholars and alumni, and learning new skills.
- Up to $7,000 for eligible academic expenses. (See our FAQs for scholarship award benefits and conditions.)
Your Udall application will consist of
- An 11-question application;
- An 800-word essay related to the Udall brothers’ core values.
- Transcripts for all college coursework; and
- Three letters of recommendation that speak to your leadership, public service, and academic achievements.
Additional documentation is required for applicants in Tribal public policy and health care, and eligible U.S. permanent residents.
Eligibility
- Environmental Category:
- U.S. Citizens, Nationals, and Lawful Permanent Residents;
- Who are sophomore or junior-level students of accredited higher education institutions;
- Who intend to pursue careers related to the environment; and
- Who meet other appropriate eligibility requirements set by the Udall Foundation.
- Native American and Alaska Native Categories:
- U.S. Citizens, Nationals, and Lawful Permanent Residents;
- Who are enrolled members of one or more Federally Recognized Indian Tribes that are included in the annual list of Indian Tribes published by the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to 25 U.S.C. § 5131;
- Who intend to pursue careers in health care or Tribal public policy; and
- Who meet other appropriate eligibility requirements set by the Udall Foundation.
