Creative Experiences
Definition
Learners demonstrate mastery of professional, relevant, or transferable competencies through the practicing and honing of skills and then applying them to an innovative challenge or inspired design. The process is reflective and characterized by a high degree of critical thinking, problem solving, adaptability, and risk-taking.
Background
Creative experiences can take many different forms and are highly prevalent at K-State. Our definition closely aligns with the Association of American Colleges and Univerisities description of creative thinking.
Learners who engage in creative experiences may also develop skills in teamwork, communication, and individual motivaton.
K-State Examples
- Engaging in an academic competition team, such as Concrete Canoe, or Crops Judging through practices and formal events
- Choreographing and performing an original performance as part of coursework required of dance majors
- Designing and creating an original furniture piece in the Architecture, Planning, and Design Fabrication Shop
- Proposing and hosting a new segment as an employee of Wildcat 91.9
