Jana Thomas has spent 20+ years in marketing, advertising, and communications, working in dynamic, fast-paced industries while creating integrated brand strategies for large brands such as DIRECTV, Geek Squad, Penske, FASTSIGNS International, and Cinergy Entertainment. Over half of her industry career has been focused on digital media, in areas such as digital findability, search engine and mobile marketing, and paid and organic social media. She also owns a social media consulting and training company, specializing in film and family entertainment brands, as well as employee training in social media strategy and content development.
In 2021, Jana launched the Social Media Citizenship Project, an initiative dedicated to helping middle school and high school educators and administrators better understand student social media communication behaviors, in order to create applicable strategies for maximizing positive social media use.
In the A.Q. Miller School of Media and Communication, Jana teaches courses in social media strategy, social media management, content creation, advertising, multi-media campaign development, Ad & PR writing, and media audiences.
Jana earned her Master’s of Science in Strategic Communications from Kansas State University and is currently working on her doctorate in Leadership Communication. She conducts research in the areas of adolescent media use, digital citizenship, and social media manager well-being.
