K-State Today is Kansas State University's reliable source for the latest university news and information. K-State Today is always available online and is distributed to current students, faculty and staff via an e-newsletter digest on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
A weekly newsletter is available for alumni, retirees, partners and the community by completing this subscription form.
K-State Today is coordinated by the Division of Communications and Marketing.
Editorial guidelines
Writers and editors of K-State Today follow journalistic style. K-State Today editors exercise editorial judgment and decide when and what appears online and in all e-newsletter editions. All submissions are subject to approval and editing for clarity, length, and AP and university style.
Submissions should be made using the submit form and should be in article format.
Audience
K-State Today is designed for broad segments of the university community. If your item does not relate to the majority of the campus community, there are other communication tools available to best reach your target audience.
For assistance in targeting niche audiences, it is best to contact your designated marketing client manager, college communicator or other departmental resources.
Tips and pointers
- All content must have a direct connection to Kansas State University with broad appeal.
- Topics should be highly newsworthy, with the final decision at the discretion of the Division of Communications and Marketing.
- Events should be posted on the university event calendar. An event feed from the university calendar will be included in the e-newsletter.
- Articles are rarely included in the e-newsletter more than once.
- Deadlines for each week's publication*:
- Monday: 2 p.m. the Thursday prior
- Wednesday: 2 p.m. Monday
- Friday: 2 p.m. Wednesday
*Submission by the deadline does not guarantee publication in the next edition.
- Kudos news briefs will be collected and published in one article each month. Submit an accomplishment for consideration using the kudos form.
Please understand that the following types of information will not be published:
- Articles with names of students who have signed a nondisclosure form with the university as part of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
- Opinion-based articles, letters to the editor, or statements to support or oppose political parties or causes as outlined in PPM 3095.
- Content that may be potentially libelous.
- Information about an employee's personal life.
- External full-time positions, student jobs or internship opportunities. Contact K-State Career Center for services available for student opportunities.
- Obituaries, death or memorial services announcements.
- Individual retirement announcements.
- Links to unit newsletters or publications.
- Changes to hours of operation or temperary office closures.
All submissions are subject to review and subsequent consultation about the best approach to reach your audience.
Distribution
K-State Today is sent to all current university faculty, staff and students via an official Kansas State University email address. Recipients cannot unsubscribe from the e-newsletter, as it is one of the university's primary methods of communication to the entire community, including emergency and mandated messages.
