MANHATTAN — The College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University seeks applicants for the Summer Program for Aspiring Rural Kansas, or SPARK, veterinary experience.

SPARK creates direct and purposeful connections between aspiring veterinarians and veterinary practices in rural communities throughout Kansas. During the weeklong immersive experience, participants shadow veterinarians in rural communities to gain exposure to the demands and rewards of rural veterinary practice.

Participants will also engage in consultation sessions to learn how to create a competitive application for a selective Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or D.V.M., degree program.

Ideal applicants have a strong interest in practicing veterinary medicine in a rural community, intend to apply for admission to a D.V.M. program during the 2023-2024 application cycle and are within five years of attaining a veterinary medicine degree. Applicants outside of that criteria are welcome to apply as well. Fill out the online form to apply.

The goals of the SPARK program are to generate long-term interest in a career in rural veterinary medicine and to support participants through the process of applying to professional veterinary programs.

The application deadline is Friday, March 31, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants will be notified of the participation decision via email by Friday, April 7, 2023. Questions about these programs can be directed to admit@vet.k-state.edu.
