MANHATTAN — The Kansas Board of Regents has announced a new self-paced literacy professional development opportunity for pre-K-12 educators that includes a $500 stipend. Kansas State University is supporting the initiative's website and content development as well as its communications and registration.
This opportunity is available to Kansas educators in all grades and content areas. Through the Kansas Board of Regents, or KBOR, grant, teachers will be paid $500 to participate in modules and develop classroom application learning activities suitable for a statewide repository. Modules open July 10, and teachers must submit their lesson plans, activities and self-reflection documents by Aug. 15. Interested educators can register here.
The literacy modules in the program cover phonological and phonemic awareness; phonics; syllable instruction; morphology; syntax; language, vocabulary and semantics; comprehension; assessments and interventions; and writing. Three additional modules are available on English language learners, special education and dyslexia.
K-State's College of Education is working with education leaders to formalize the program through the creation of its webpage and communication efforts. K-State Global Campus is processing the registrations and housing the modules.
The content was developed by reading experts from each Regent Institution, including Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, University of Kansas, Wichita State University, and Washburn University.
