COMPUTER SCIENCE TEAM PLACES THIRD IN SUPERCOMPUTING COMPETITION

MANHATTAN -- A team of Kansas State University computer science students put their knowledge of computer systems and programming to the test recently to take third place in the Supercomputing 10 Student Programming Competition.

This year's event, in New Orleans, gave five-member teams a day -- from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- to find solutions to a set a problems.

According to K-State's Dan Andresen, associate professor of computing and information sciences and team coach, some of the problems required programming knowledge, some required systems knowledge and some required knowledge outside of computer science.

Members of the K-State team, all in computer science, include: Chris Ramsey, senior from Bushton; Cory Hardman, senior from Lansing; Paul Hodson, senior from Marion; Clint Caywood, senior from Topeka; and Michael Marlen, doctoral student from Wichita.
