Approaching the finish line: More than 1,600 students to graduate Dec. 9 and 10
MANHATTAN -- Commencement ceremonies for Kansas State University will take place Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10, on the university campuses in Manhattan and Salina. More than 1,655 students are candidates for graduation.
Nearly 1,230 bachelor's degrees, more than 335 master's degrees, about 70 doctoral degrees and more than 20 associate degrees will be awarded. Seventy students are candidates to receive multiple degrees, and nearly 100 distance students are candidates for graduation.
Commencement ceremonies Dec. 9 include the Graduate School at 1 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. Elizabeth Dodd, university distinguished professor of English, will be the commencement speaker. The commencement ceremony on the Salina campus will be at 7 p.m. in the Student Life Center. Jennifer Johnson, executive vice president of Sunflower Bank, will be the commencement speaker.
Commencement ceremonies Dec. 10 will all take place on the Manhattan campus. The schedule and speakers include:
* College of Agriculture, 1:30 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. Anita Dille, associate professor of agronomy, will give the challenge to the graduates.
* College of Arts and Sciences, 9 a.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. Judge Maritza Segarra from the state's 8th Judicial District will give the commencement address.
* College of Business Administration, noon in Bramlage Coliseum. Tom Giller, community bank president, Commerce Bank, Manhattan, will provide the commencement remarks.
* College of Education, 10:30 a.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. April Mason, university provost and senior vice president, will give the challenge to the graduates.
* College of Engineering, 3 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum. Margaret Yaege, retired president of ConocoPhillips Pipe Line Company, will deliver the commencement remarks.
* College of Human Ecology, 9 a.m. in McCain Auditorium. Virginia Moxley, dean of college, will deliver the charge to the class.

A virtual commencement ceremony is available at http://dce.k-state.edu/students/commencement/ for distance education students unable to attend their commencement ceremony in person. The website will include a listing of students earning degrees through distance education, a place for family and friends to post congratulatory messages and other commencement-related offerings.
DVDs of the ceremony may be ordered through the K-State Student Union Bookstore at 800-KSU-CATS or 785-532-6583. The DVDs are $19.99.
Also, commissioning ceremonies for K-State's Army and Air Force ROTC units will take place commencement weekend. The Army ROTC will commission six officers during its ceremony at 10 a.m. on Dec. 9 in the K-State Student Union's Forum Hall. The Air Force ROTC will commission eight officers at 2 p.m. on Dec. 9 in Forum Hall.
