MODERN DANCE SENSATION MOMIX PERFORMING FEB. 4 AT K-STATE'S MCCAIN AUDITORIUM
MANHATTAN -- Momix, a company of dancer-illusionists, will present "The Best of Momix" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium. The performance is part of the 2009-2010 McCain Performance Series.
Momix has been known internationally for more than 20 years for the way its conjures up a world of surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body, combining astonishing movement and extraordinary athleticism. The performance will include highlights from several of the group's most popular shows, including "Opus Cactus," "Lunar Sea," "Passion," "Orbit" and the group's newest creation, "Botanica."
In addition to stage performances worldwide, the company has frequently worked on special projects and in film and television. Momix has made five Italian RAI television features broadcast to 55 countries, and has performed on Antenne II in France. Momix also appeared in the PBS series "Dance in America." In addition, the group was featured in one of the first IMAX films in 3-D, "Imagine," which was shown at IMAX theaters worldwide.
Tickets for "Momix: The Best of Momix" are on sale now. Prices start at $15 for K-State students and $30 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty, children and military also are available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. The show will be preceded by a McCain Conversation, "Moses Pendleton, Choreographer/Renaissance Man," at 6:30 p.m. in 204 McCain. David Ollington, associate professor of theater and dance at K-State, will explore how Pendleton, the creative genius behind Momix, has danced into various corners of knowledge and creates marvelous works of total theater. Ollington will discuss Pendleton's diverse background and choreography. The conversation is free and open to the public.
