AREA MATHLETES TO COMPETE FEB. 5 AT K-STATE SALINA
SALINA -- Nearly 70 middle school-aged mathletes will flex their multiplying muscles, divide into teams and try to add a MATHCOUNTS competition title to their accomplishments.
Saturday, Feb. 5, the competition will feature mathletes from Southeast of Saline Junior High School, Gypsum; Trinity Catholic Junior Senior High School, Hutchinson; Linn Middle School, Linn; Amanda Arnold Elementary School and Susan B. Anthony Middle School, Manhattan; Chisholm Middle School, Newton; Sacred Heart Junior-Senior High School and Salina South Middle School, Salina; and Washington High School, Washington.
The top three teams and top six individuals will advance to the state competition March 5 in Salina. The 2011 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition is in Washington, D.C., in May.
The regional competition will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the College Center Conference Room.
MATHCOUNTS competitions are part of a national program. The local competition is run by volunteers from the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers, Smoky Valley chapter.
