UNIVERSITY HOUSING AT CAPACITY; K-STATE STAFF WORKING WITH COMMUNITY TO FIND SPACE FOR NEW STUDENTS

MANHATTAN -- The popularity of on-campus student housing at Kansas State University's Manhattan campus has resulted in exceptionally high demand. This is in spite of K-State adding more than 700 student spaces in the past three years.

Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students, said, "We are delighted with the number of students interested in living in our on-campus housing. At this point, the number of those interested exceeds our capacity, so we are calling on the Manhattan community to assist the K-State family in finding housing for our incoming students."

Bosco noted that students who have returned their housing contracts already have rooms reserved for them. Also, enrollments for fall semester for new and continuing students are still being accepted.

"We are at capacity for on-campus student housing, but still have ample space in classes," Bosco said.

Derek Jackson, associate director of housing and dining, said, "We have accommodated students in some form of overflow within campus apartments or study rooms in the halls. We are also in discussions with hotels to fill a few more spots, but even the number of beds that we might get from hotels will not be enough.

"All students who call K-State housing and dining services will be given assistance to locate off campus housing," Jackson said.

Housing and dining services is in the midst of an on-going redevelopment project that will provide additional student housing within the Jardine Apartments community.
