University working to clean up leaking fuel storage tank outside Pat Roberts Hall
An emergency fuel storage tank on campus was found leaking this morning. The containment wall built around the tank served its purpose and prevented the spill from causing damage to the environment.
University staff is working with a private company to pump the diesel fuel back into the tank and repair the malfunctioning equipment that allowed the leak.
The fuel is for the back-up generator at the Biosecurity Research Institute at Pat Roberts Hall. The leak has not affected staff or operations inside the building, including research.
Galitzer said a small amount of fuel leaked outside the berm, but it is contained and staff will clean it up.
As a precaution, the Manhattan Fire Department was notified.
