Phillips 66 continues support for Kansas State University

MANHATTAN -- A gift of $500,000 from Phillips 66 is supporting programs across Kansas State University and in the College of Engineering and College of Business Administration.
The company also has selected the university as one of 10 in the nation to participate in the SHIELD Scholar program. SHIELD stands for Students Heightening Involvement in Education, Leadership and Development. Twenty-four junior and senior students will receive the annual $5,000 scholarship award beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year.
The contribution from Phillips 66 also supports the Kansas State University Center for Sustainable Energy, business ethics classes and programs, and a variety of programs across campus promoting diversity and professional development for students and faculty.
"Phillips 66 has sought K-State graduates to join its global workforce for generations," said Tim Taylor, executive vice president of commercial, marketing, transportation and business development at Phillips 66 and the company's executive liaison to Kansas State University. Taylor is also a university alumnus.
"More than 200 K-State alums are currently employed at Phillips 66, and the company actively recruits top graduates primarily from chemical and mechanical engineering and computing and information sciences in the College of Engineering, as well as finance and accounting graduates from the College of Business Administration," Taylor said.
"K-State and Phillips 66 share a commitment to excellence, leadership and service," said Kirk Schulz, university president. "Their support and commitment to our university has helped develop outstanding student leaders, aid impactful student and faculty research in sustainability, and provide resources to drive us toward our mission of being a Top 50 public research university by 2025."
Philanthropic contributions to the university are coordinated by the Kansas State University Foundation. The foundation staff works with university partners to build lifelong relationships with alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students through involvement and investment in the university.
