College of Human Ecology experts among speakers at Parkinson's conference

MANHATTAN -- A neurologist who specializes in movement disorders and two Kansas State University College of Human Ecology faculty members will be among the speakers at the 2013 Parkinson's Education Conference at the university on Saturday, April 13.
The free annual event, to be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Justin Hall, is aimed at people with Parkinson's, caregivers, family and health professionals. Lunch will be served.
Registration is required at http://www.parkinsonheartland.org, but the number of attendees is limited.
On the program are Kansas State University's Migette Kaup, associate professor in interior design, and Joyce Baptist, associate professor in marriage and family therapy.
Kaup, who will present "Home Modifications and Home Safety," specializes in gerontological and universal design. Baptist, a specialist in couples relationships, will discuss "Caregivers: Healthy Relationships."
Neurologist Melissa Natanya Kagnoff will be the keynote speaker and present "PD: What Do We Know Now?" and "Crystal Ball -- Future of PD."
Kagnoff received a medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and was a movement disorders fellow at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. She has a Master of Public Health from Columbia University, New York.
The conference is sponsored by the Speech and Hearing Center and the Center on Aging in the College of Human Ecology, the Heartland chapter of the National Parkinson Foundation and the Parkinson's Program of Manhattan at Meadowlark Hills.
In conjunction with the Parkinson's conference, the Speech and Hearing Center will host a two-day LSVT LOUD Training and Certification Workshop for speech-language pathologists on Friday, April 12, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community and on Saturday, April 13, at Justin Hall on the Kansas State University campus.
