Kays, Kennedy new Kansas State University Student Governing Association leaders

MANHATTAN — Kansas State University students have elected Charles "Reagan" Kays, senior in agribusiness, Weir, as student body president.

His running mate, Cody Kennedy, junior in secondary education and mathematics, Phillipsburg, will serve as student body vice president.

Kays and Kennedy plan to start work immediately on implementing their platform issues, which are streamlining tutoring services, increasing communication with all 475 student organizations and advocating for a medical amnesty law.

"I am most passionate about helping people and I want to do this for the rest of my life," Kays said. "With the extraordinary opportunity to serve the students of K-State, I want to work with our team to help the student body. Being elected to this position is a dream comes true and I want to make sure we do everything we can to help improve K-State and look out for the family."

Kays is the Blue Key Senior Honorary president, College of Agriculture student senator, College of Agriculture ambassador and a member of the university's Student Foundation. Kays also is the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity national undergraduate director. A 2010 graduate of St. Mary's Colgan High School in Pittsburg, he is the son of Kelly and Connie Kays, Weir.

Kennedy is the treasurer/university allocations committee chair and College of Education student senator for the Student Governing Association. He is a member of the College of Education Ambassadors, Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education and Collegian Media Group Board. Kennedy also has served as Acacia fraternity philanthropy chair, risk management chair and ritual chair. He is the recipient of the Borck Leadership Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, he is the son of Nick and Deb Kennedy, Phillipsburg.
