Student Foundation gains 18 new members for philanthropic efforts that help students, university

Monday, March 24, 2014

MANHATTAN — Eighteen Kansas State University students were recently selected to the Student Foundation, which focuses on raising awareness among current and future alumni about the importance of giving back to the university and cultivating philanthropy across the university.

Sponsored by the Kansas State University Foundation, the Student Foundation works with foundation staff and volunteers to uphold the mission of uniting philanthropic desires with university priorities. The Student Foundation's largest and most popular program is the K-State Proud Student Campaign, which raises money for Student Opportunity Awards. These awards are given to Kansas State University students who have exhausted all other forms of financial assistance and, in many cases, are responsible for keeping students at the university. Student Foundation members also interact with alumni, participate in professional development and act as campus hosts.

"It is a pleasure to work with student leaders who have a heart for service and care deeply about K-State," said Mindy Weixelman, senior director of annual giving and student programs at the KSU Foundation. "We appreciate their commitment to advancing K-State through philanthropy and look forward to working with Student Foundation to achieve their philanthropic goals."

The following students are new members of the Student Foundation:

Efren Frayre, sophomore in business management, and Audrey Gerber, sophomore in nutrition and health, both from Garden City; Taylor Fry, sophomore in business, and Hunter Harrison, sophomore in entrepreneurship and finance, both from Great Bend.

From Greater Kansas City: Tucker Styrkowicz, Leawood, sophomore in industrial engineering; Maggie Meyer, sophomore in chemical engineering, and Shai Washington, junior in political science and international studies, both from Lenexa; Katie Ahern, sophomore in communication sciences and disorders, and Ellie Dickens, junior in anthropology, political science and international studies, and Joe Tinker, sophomore in computer science and psychology, all from Overland Park; Ellen Bodine, Roeland Park, sophomore in communication sciences and disorders; and Luke Schnefke, Shawnee, junior in mechanical engineering.

Emma Barnett, Hutchinson, freshman in political science and international business; Cajsa Larson, Leonardville, sophomore in elementary education; Kaitlyn Rippel, Maize, junior in sociology and international business; and Alec Khoury, Wichita, sophomore in political science.

From out of state: Kyle Rohrmann, Fresno, Calif., freshman in business administration; and Ann Schneeberger, Fort Collins, Colo., freshman in secondary education.
