LOCAL ROTARY CLUBS AWARD $500 SCHOLARSHIPS TO K-STATE INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS

MANHATTAN -- Five more international students from Kansas State University have earned the $500 International Graduate Student Scholarship from the Konza and Manhattan Rotary clubs.

Scholarship recipients include: Farhana Rahman, doctoral student in civil engineering, Bangladesh; Lisi Xue, doctoral student in agricultural economics, China; Satyabrata Das, doctoral student in biochemistry, India; Deyka Irina Garcia Batista, doctoral student in mechanical engineering, Panama; and Wen-chi Chen, doctoral student in human ecology, Taiwan.

Hieu Sy "Danny" Vu, doctoral student in microbiology, Vietnam, was previously announced as a scholarship recipient.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. The International Scholarship program is one way that Rotary International can foster international understanding and friendship, said Rebecca Gould, co-chair of the scholarship committee for the Konza and Manhattan Rotary clubs and director of K-State's Information Technology Assistance Center.
