ENGINEERING SUCCESS: STUDENTS EARN HONORS FOR OUTSTANDING WORK
MANHATTAN -- Academic achievement and involvement have earned students from Kansas State University's department of industrial and manufacturing systems engineering some special honors, including scholarships.
The awards were presented at the department's recent annual spring semester awards banquet. Along with the department honors, some of the awards were presented by the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Students earning honors include:
Brant Roney, master's student in industrial engineering, Andover, received the Institute of Industrial Engineers' Gamma Hardcharger award. He is the son of Rex and Karen Roney and a 2006 graduate of Andover High School.
Jordan Bever, junior in industrial engineering, Hutchinson, was named the Outstanding Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Junior and awarded the George L. Dickey Memorial Scholarship. She also received the Institute of Industrial Engineers' Alpha Hardcharger award. Bever is the daughter of Jim and Janet Bever and a 2008 graduate of Hutchinson High School.
Valerie Rito, freshman in industrial engineering, Liberal, received the Outstanding Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Freshman award. Rito is a 2010 graduate of Liberal High School. She is the daughter of Gilbert and Yvonne Rito.
Matthew James, industrial engineering graduate student, Manhattan, received the Lynn Bussey Memorial Graduate Award and scholarship. He is a 2007 graduate of Clay Center Community High School and the son of Daree and Lemuel James, Clay Center.
Alan Tillman, senior in industrial engineering, Manhattan, received the Jacob Smaltz Senior Academic Achievement Award and scholarship. He is a 2001 Manhattan High School graduate and the son of Frank and Barbara Tillman.
Lauren Cody, sophomore in industrial engineering, Overland Park, was presented with the Institute of Industrial Engineers' Beta Hardcharger award. Cody is the daughter of Mark and Janet Cody and a 2008 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School.
Sarah Pavlu, sophomore in industrial engineering, Overland Park, received the Outstanding Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Sophomore award. She is a 2009 Shawnee Mission East High School graduate, and the daughter of Ken and Susan Pavlu.
Tyler Whetstone, senior in industrial engineering, Overland Park, was named Outstanding Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Senior. He is the son of Byron and Jerri Whetstone and a 2005 graduate of Rockhurst High School, Kansas City, Mo.
