READY TO SERVE: ROTC UNITS HAVE COMMISSIONING CEREMONIES

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State University's Army and Air Force ROTC units will commission 30 cadets as second lieutenants at ceremonies Friday, May 13, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. The Army ROTC ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. and the Air Force ROTC ceremony will be at 2 p.m.

Earning commissions will be 19 cadets from K-State's Wildcat Battalion Army ROTC unit, and 11 cadets from K-State's Air Force ROTC Detachment 270.

Five cadets from Army ROTC's Wildcat Battalion are being commissioned as distinguished military graduates. This honor ranks them among the top 20 percent of cadets nationwide. The raning is based on grade point average, Army physical fitness scores and leadership abilities.

Lt. Gen. Donald Campbell will serve as the commissioning speaker at the Army ROTC ceremony. Campbell was part of K-State's Army ROTC distinguished alumni class of 1978. He is the commanding general at Fort Hood in Texas.

Col. Douglas K. Lamberth will be the commissioning speaker for the Air Force ROTC ceremony. Lamberth is the vice commander of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita. He earned his commission through Air Force ROTC at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1990.

The following K-State ROTC cadets, all graduating seniors, are being commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army or Air Force:

Wade Scribner, senior in biology, Andover, Air Force; Andrew Wessel, senior in finance, Auburn, Air Force; David Ghormley, senior in psychology, Benton, Army; Christopher Robinette, senior in sociology, Cedar Vale, Army; Asucena Ochoa Romero, senior in sociology, Dodge City; Brandon Churchill, senior in history, Hays, Army.

From Junction City: Raymond Colston, senior in sociology, Christopher Dirks, senior in history, and Henry Huguley, senior in geography, all Army.

Christopher A. Hansen, senior in construction science and management, and Ashley Mayes, senior in social science, both from Leavenworth, and both in the Air Force; Christopher Connell, senior in animal sciences and industry, Lenexa, Army.

From Manhattan: Ethan Bezzek, senior in history, Tyler Goldsby, senior in sociology, Jacob Piscal, senior in social science and distinguished military graduate, and Rory Sharp, senior in biology and distinguished military graduate, all Army.

Michael Anstaett, senior in mechanical engineering, Olathe, Air Force; Katherine Maier, senior in apparel marketing, Ottawa, Air Force; Mark Caywood, senior in history, Air Force and Richard Stromberg, senior in political science and distinguished military graduate, Army, both from Sterling; Aaron Rigg, senior in biology, Topeka, Air Force; Nicolas Boeschling, senior in sociology, Waterville, Army; and Adam Beckman, senior in social science, Army, and Gregory S. Brown, senior in kinesiology, Air Force, both from Wichita.
