Senior from Overland Park is College of Human Ecology's student commencement speaker

MANHATTAN -- Margaret Weller, a bachelor's candidate in communication sciences and disorders, OverlandPark, will represent the College of Human Ecology's graduating class as student speaker at commencement. The ceremony will be at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in Bramlage Coliseum on the Kansas State University campus.

Weller is the recipient of the college's Outstanding Senior in Communication Sciences and Disorders award. She also is president of Mortar Board, the senior honor society. Under her leadership the group won the Golden Torch Award, the highest honor a chapter can achieve.

She has served as executive Panhellenic delegate with Alpha Delta Pi sorority. As the past president of the Chinese Culture Club, she has studied Mandarin Chinese. She also has received awards for her accomplishments in student leadership, debate and forensics. Her other activities include the Student Alumni Board, the Kansas State University Student Foundation, the Pre-Law Club and the university's student ambassador for Johnson County.

Weller also is an entrepreneur. In 2005 she founded Maggie's Cakes.

The daughter of Rick and Coleen Weller, Overland Park, she is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
