University, high school student winners named in apparel design exhibition, runway show

MANHATTAN — Lauren Nutt, a senior in apparel and textiles from Wichita, won the Best in Show award at the recent Apparel, Textiles, and Interior Design Student Symposium Showcase of Excellence on Kansas State University's Manhattan campus.
Winners of the juried exhibit and runway show were announced May 1. The apparel, textiles, and interior design department in the College of Human Ecology sponsored the event.
The exhibition included work from 25 Kansas State University students, nine Kansas high school students and eight garments by guests from Hankyong National University in South Korea. In the runway show, 46 entries by Kansas State University were students were accepted.
Winners at the university and high school levels, their category and placing include:
Victoria Umscheid, junior in apparel and textiles, Belvue, first place in the university denim category; Kelsie Doty, master's student in apparel and textiles, Council Grove, first place in the university cotton category and second place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; Miranda Hicks, third place in the high school category, and Kenzie Jones, second place in the high school category, both from Elkhart High School; Kimberly Gottschalk, sophomore in apparel and textiles, Ellis, mounted exhibit award in the university wool category and seventh place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; Brennan Randel, senior in apparel and textiles, Frankfort, second place in the university denim category.
From Greater Kansas City: Kaitlyn Knight, senior in apparel and textiles, Kansas City, second place in the university wool category; Kathryn Zosche, junior in apparel and textiles, Merriam, first place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; and Rylee Bacon, senior in apparel and textiles, Olathe, first place and a mounted exhibit award, both in the university active wear category.
Trey Desaire, senior in apparel and textiles, Hays, mounted exhibit award in the university cotton category; Elena Andrus, sophomore in apparel and textiles, Junction City, eighth place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; Ryal Mitchel, Bishop Seabury Academy, Lawrence, first place in the high school category.
From Manhattan: Jisel Blasi, senior in apparel and textiles, mounted exhibit award in the university cotton category; Lauren Schoneman, senior in apparel and textiles, mounted exhibit award in the university active wear category; and Cheryl Yacenda, senior in apparel and textiles, second place in the university cotton category.
Brooke Wallace, sophomore in apparel and textiles, New Cambria, sixth place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; Samantha White, Tonganoxie High School, fourth place in the high school category.
From Wichita: Katie Jones, senior in apparel and textiles, first place in the university wool category; Lauren Nutt, fifth place in the "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; Sara Sheehan, mounted exhibit award in the university denim category; and Olivia Wood, mounted exhibit award in the university denim category.
From out of country: Ying Ma, China, third place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category; and Hayat Alboushy, Kuwait, fourth place in the university "inspired by Janet Lee Rees" category.
