MCCAIN PERFORMANCE SERIES TO FEATURE VENICE BAROQUE ORCHESTRA AND VIOLINIST ROBERT MCDUFFIE
MANHATTAN -- As part of the 2010-2011 Kansas State University McCain Performance Series, the Venice Baroque Orchestra and world-renowned violinist Robert McDuffie will present "The Seasons Project" at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in McCain Auditorium.
The performance will include a debut of Philip Glass' new composition Concerto No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra, "The American Four Seasons." It will be performed with its inspiration: Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons."
The first half of the concert will feature the orchestra performing Vivaldi's original work on period instruments. Musicians will switch to contemporary instruments for Glass's interpretation in the second half of the performance.
Tickets are on sale now with prices starting at $17 for K-State students and $34 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military and children are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. More information is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.
A McCain Conversation will precede the evening's performance at 6:30 p.m. in 105 McCain Auditorium. Featuring host lecturer David Littrell, university distinguished professor of music at K-State, the discussion will focus on the difference between string instruments of the early 1700s and those of 2010, as well as how the musical language has changed over the centuries. It is free and open to the public.
