Select company: Paul Edgerley new member of Accounting Hall of Fame

MANHATTAN -- The managing director of a noted Boston investment firm is the newest member of the College of Business Administration Accounting Hall of Fame.

Paul B. Edgerley, managing director at Bain Capital in Boston, was recently inducted into the hall. Edgerley graduated from K-State with honors in 1978, earning a bachelor of science in business administration. He then spent three years with the accounting firm Peat, Marwick and Mitchell before earning his master's in business administration with distinction from Harvard Business School.

Edgerley spent five years at Bain and Company where he worked as a consultant and manager in the automotive, health care, information services and retail industries. In 1988 he joined Bain Capital, a private investment firm, as a principal until he attained his current position of managing director in 1990. Today, Bain Capital has more than $65 billion in assets under management.

Edgerley is active on numerous business and charitable boards. Currently he is on the boards of the Boston Celtics, Hero Honda Corporation, HD Supply, Keystone Automotive, MEI Conlux, Sensata Technologies and Steel Dynamics. He is also a member of dean advisory councils at both K-State and Harvard Business School. His charitable boards include the Shamrock Foundation, the Harvard Business School Arthur Rock Foundation, the U.S. board of The Right to Play and New Profit Inc.

In 2010, Edgerley and his wife, Sandra, established an endowed deanship in the K-State College of Business Administration. Their commitment of $5 million provides continuous funding to ensure the college will have distinguished leadership and assist K-State in becoming a top 50 research university by 2025.

"The Accounting Hall of Fame recognizes alumni of the program who have achieved positions of leadership both in the business world and in their communities. Their accomplishments and character reflect well on Kansas State University, the College of Business Administration and on the department of accounting," said Richard Ott, head of the department of accounting.

"In honoring individuals selected for the K-State Accounting Hall of Fame we seek to hold out role models for students currently in the program and for young alumni just starting their careers. Paul Edgerley exemplifies all of these qualities and has been one of K-State's biggest supporters," Ott said.

Previous inductees to the Accounting Hall of Fame inductees include Julie Bryant, Stan Weber, Randolph Buseman and Rand Berney. The first member inducted was Allen Webber in 1999.
