MANHATTAN — Bill Snyder Family Stadium will be filled with the sound of music from Kansas State University's annual Band Day performance Saturday, Sept. 19, at halftime of the Wildcats' football game against Louisiana Tech.
"The best part of hosting an event such as Band Day is the excitement of having so many high school students and potential K-State students on campus to experience band, the campus and the K-State Way," said Frank Tracz, director of bands at Kansas State University.
This year's Band Day also will be Sudler Day in recognition of the Kansas State University Marching Band receiving the 2015 Sudler Trophy, a biannual award that recognizes a college marching band of special merit. The trophy honors the close historical relationship and outstanding contribution of college marching bands to the American way of life.
Seventeen schools and 250 alumni band members will participate in the Band Day halftime performance. Because of construction on around the campus, the traditional Band Day parade has been canceled.
For the halftime performance, the schools will join the Kansas State University Marching Band in "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, the university's alma mater and the traditional Band Day performances of the "1812 Overture," "Wabash Cannonball" and "Wildcat Victory."
The following junior and senior high schools are participating in Band Day:
Wabaunsee High School, Alma; Ell-Saline High School, Brookville; Great Bend High School, Great Bend; Halstead High School, Halstead; Herington Junior-Senior High, Herington; Junction City High School and St. Xavier Catholic High School, both in Junction City; Linn High School, Linn; Manhattan High School, Manhattan; Jayhawk-Linn High School, Mound City; Mulvane High School, Mulvane; Rossville High School, Rossville; Scott Community High School, Scott City; Nemaha Central High School, Seneca; Silver Lake High School, Silver Lake; Riverside USD 114, Wathena; and Jefferson County North High School, Winchester.
