Eric Nelson
Eric Nelson is a second-year doctoral student in the Systems and Synthetic Biology Lab under the supervision of Dr. Rajib Saha at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Eric is originally from Rosamond, California, and holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studied under the guidance of Dr. Michael Herman. Under his supervision, he studied the roles of membrane raft proteins in innate immune response in Caenorhabditis elegans. His current research interests are understanding the roles of different bacterial species in their microbiome, primarily through using Genome-Scale Metabolic Modeling. His current research interests are using mixed-integer linear programming to refine and improve the accuracy of Genome-Scale Metabolic Models. In the future, Eric hopes to use his knowledge of metabolic modeling to understand the effects of microbes on crop growth and disease.
