Benefits, Scholarships and other Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance is offered to qualified members of the armed forces. Each branch of the armed forces manages tuition assistance independently through separate programs offered online and through military education centers.

  • Army uses www.army.mil for Active, Army National Guard, and Reserve soldiers.
  • Air Force uses the Virtual Education Center.
  • The Navy uses the Navy College Program, which also supports the US Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

Kansas Army and Air National Guard are also eligible for State Tuition Assistance through the Kansas Adjundant General's Office. (Note: State Tuition Assistance for Army and Air National Guard (PDF) is only available for fall and spring terms, not summer.)

Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) is available to service members of all branches of the Armed Forces.

Speak with your Education Services Officer (ESO) or center within your specific branch prior to enrolling.

Tuition Assistance provides:

  • $250 per credit hour; fiscal year cap of $4,500
  • Maximum 16-18* credit hours per fiscal year (1 Oct – 30 Sep)
  • Officers and Warrant Officers who use this program incur an additional duty service obligation of 2 years (active) or 4 years (Reserve Component) after last TA course

Tuition Assistance Request requirements:

  • 60 days (about 2 months) to 7 days before course start date
  • Only for courses listed on the Evaluated Degree Plan
  • NOT AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT.
    • Requesting TA does not enroll you into your K-State courses automatically.
    • You must also work with your academic advisor to enroll in your courses
  • Accuracy is very important. Incorrect course information and dates can invalidate your tuition assistance request

Evaluated Degree Plan

  • Undergraduate students: Use your DARS report from KSIS
  • Graduate students: Use your Program of Study

Once TA is approved, send TA authorization form to sponsorship@ksu.edu

Grades: Students will be responsible to repay any TA funds for low grades:

  • Undergraduate: D grade or lower and W for withdraws after 100% refund date
  • Graduate: C grade or lower and W for withdraws after 100% refund date

Federal Tuition Assistance + additional funding

  • If you are stationed in Kansas apply for the K-State Military Residency Tuition Waiver to waive out-of-state tuition rates. Not required for fully online students.
  • Federal Tuition Assistance does not cover the total cost of attendance
  • TA can be combined with other forms of financial aid and the GI Bill.
  • TA normally pays after the K-State tuition deadline. To help prevent late fees, K-State applies a "third-party sponsorship" onto your account
  • Contact your assigned K-State student financial aid advisor for assistance.
