The waiting room is crowded. But when the deputy herds Nick toward the examination room, people shrink away as though he had the plague.

"Three to one he’s got it too," a man mutters, and Nora instantly turns on him.

"I’ll take that bet, Grizz," she says, loudly. "Shall we say a hundred bucks?" The man shakes his head and turns away.

"They’re all here," Nora tells you in a low voice. "That’s Grizz Talljones, he owns the Grapplin’ Bear. Over there are the Tutweiler Brothers, they make and sell jerky. That’s Karly Jonsson, she owns Salad Daze, and that’s her mother Darla with her. Darla helps make and dish the salads.

"Those two people work at Norma Jean’s. She’s Astrid and he’s Clint, I don’t know their last names. And there’s Adam Brown - he’s another of Cam’s friends. But I don’t know the girl he’s sitting next to." She motions to him, and a bit reluctantly, Adam comes on over.
