What Dr. Humber said:

"Pathogenesis. Ingestion, okay? Then passage through the gastric acid barrier and invasion of the epithelial layer. Acute inflammatory response and thus, diarrhea and maybe ulceration and destruction of the mucosa. Systemic disease, if the bacteria disseminate from the intestines."

Dr. Jessie's translation:

"How does the disease travel? First, you eat it or drink it. It survives the acid in your stomach and invades the cells in the lining of your intestine. The cells become inflamed and may be destroyed. The bacteria may pass beyond the cells and enter your bloodstream."
