Biography

Dr. Joshua Oppenheim has served as Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Kansas State University since 2008. Prior to this appointment, he served in a similar capacity on the faculty of the Crane School of Music in New York. He is currently the President-Elect of the American Choral Directors Association Southwestern Region (2024-2026) and will assume the role of President from 2026-2028.

He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Western Michigan University, Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Mississippi, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of North Texas.

Multiple choirs under his direction have been selected to perform at state, regional, and national conferences including: NYSSMA - Crane School of Music TB Choir (2007), KMEA (Kansas State Concert Choir 2009, TB Choir 2012), A cappella Educators Association (In-A-Chord 2015), ACDA Southwestern Region (Concert Choir 2012, In-A-Chord 2016, Concert Choir 2018, & 2022), National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference (TB Choir, 2014, Concert Choir 2019)

He has served as guest conductor in the United States for the Southwestern ACDA Region Collegiate Honor Choir, Southwestern ACDA Region High School Honor Choir, in Carnegie Hall (NY), National Cathedral (D.C.), and Orchestra Hall (Chicago), and internationally in England, Indonesia, Ireland, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.

He has led Honor/All-State Choirs in Arkansas, California, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, and Virginia, and presented research sessions in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.


His publications include compositions, arrangements, and editions for choirs that are available from Petrucci Press.
