Piano Audition Requirements
Piano study is planned according to the individual’s needs and professional goals. Current Kansas State University music majors who have completed their piano class requirements and wish to continue improving their playing skills may enroll in studio lessons as space is available.
Bachelor of Music
Students who wish to pursue the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance should prepare the following for their audition:
- Play 3 contrasting pieces from different stylistic periods, at least 2 of them memorized; audition repertoire should be no less than 15 minutes long
- Bring a list of piano repertoire studied
Bachelor of Music Education
Students who wish to pursue the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music Education degree and study piano as their primary instrument should prepare the following for their audition:
- Play 2 contrasting pieces from different stylistic periods, at least one of them memorized
- Bring a list of piano repertoire studied
Master of Music
Students who wish to pursue the Master of Music degree and study piano as their primary instrument should prepare the following for their audition:
- Play contrasting pieces from different stylistic periods, all from memory; audition repertoire should be 30 minutes long
Music Minor
Students who wish to pursue the Music minor and study piano as their primary instrument should prepare the following for their audition:
- Play 2 contrasting pieces from different stylistic periods, at least one of them memorized
- Bring a list of piano repertoire studied
