Keep your bike safe with K-State registration

Friday, March 28, 2025

As the weather gets warmer, it's an ideal time to ride your bike. Biking is an affordable and convenient way to navigate both campus and Manhattan. Before you ride, ensure your bike is in good working condition and you have the required K-State bicycle permit to park on campus.

Bicycles without permits will receive citations. Bicycle registration is free and available online. The registered permit holder is responsible for any violations of bicycle parking regulations. Additionally, any moving violations will be the responsibility of the individual riding the bicycle.

Bicycles that are unregistered or parked improperly will receive citations. If a bike receives a second citation, it will be deemed abandoned and removed without notice.

If your bike is stolen, having your registration can help prove ownership, which may assist with insurance claims or disputes. Some insurance companies may require or recommend that you register your bike's serial number for coverage.

Safety tips and regulations:
• Wear a properly fitted helmet.
• Obey all traffic signs and signals.
• Use hand signals to indicate turns and stops.
• Be aware of pedestrians and give them the right of way.
• Stay in designated bike lanes whenever possible.
• Lock your bike securely in designated bike racks.
• Follow campus-specific biking regulations.
• Avoid riding on sidewalks unless permitted.
• Use lights and reflective gear if riding at night
