Charles Jake named K-State general counsel leader

Charles Jake has been appointed vice president of legal affairs and general counsel at Kansas State University, effective June 8. Jake currently serves as vice president and general counsel for the University of Toledo. Jake was selected following a national search.
"I look forward to having Charles' leadership and legal experience as part of our leadership team at K-State," Linton said. "His experience with various higher education legal matters and his collaboration skillset are great strengths for the university's Office of General Counsel."
Jake will serve as a senior advisor and strategic partner on the President's Cabinet while leading the K-State Office of General Counsel. Jake's responsibilities include overseeing legal services to all campuses and related entities of the university, including K-State Athletics and K-State Research and Extension. He will also manage the representation of the university and its administrators in judicial and administrative proceedings and in negotiations with third parties; direct the coordination of all outside counsel for the university; and collaborate with counsel for the Kansas Board of Regents and its related institutions, among other duties.
"I'm excited to join Kansas State University, supporting and collaborating with groups across the institution," Jake said. "I fully support the efforts already underway to be a next-generation land-grant university and help Kansas prosper."
Jake has an extensive background in legal affairs for higher education, including at the University of Toledo – Health Sciences Campus and the University of Cincinnati. In his current role, he has advised on name, image and likeness licensing and NCAA compliance, led the efforts to renegotiate an academic affiliation with a regional health system and helped oversee public-private partnerships. He also brings legal experience from state and local government.
Jake earned his law degree from the College of Law at the University of Cincinnati and his bachelor's degree in business management from Oakwood University.
