Janet Currie to deliver Joe Tiao Lecture on current economic issues

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Economics welcomes Janet Currie, David Swensen Professor of Economics at Yale University, for the fall 2026 Joe Tiao Lecture at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, in Regnier Forum.

The title of Currie’s talk is "Investing in Children to Address the Youth Mental Health Crisis." All faculty, staff, students and members of the community are welcome to attend the lecture.

Janet Currie is a professor of economics at Yale University, where she co-directs the Tobin-Cowles Health Economics and Policy Program and is a member of the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics. She also co-directs the Program on Families and Children at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

Currie is a pioneer in the economic analysis of child development. Her research focuses on socioeconomic differences in health, environmental threats to health, child mental health and the long-run impacts of child health. She was the 2024 President of the American Economic Association. She won the Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize in 2023, the Jacob Mincer Prize for lifetime contributions to labor economics in 2024, the Victor Fuchs Award for lifetime contributions to health economics, and the Sara McLanahan Award for extraordinary contributions to the study of the well-being of children and families in 2026.

The Joe Tiao Lecture Series, established in 2006, enables the College of Arts and Sciences' economics department to bring internationally acclaimed economists to campus each year. Each Tiao lecturer presents two lectures at K-State: a public lecture on a current economics issue of interest and a more technical seminar within the department.
