The 2007-2008 McCain Performance Series will feature a rafting adventure on the Mississippi River, a trip to Neverland with a boy who won't grow up, improvisational comedy from the Windy City and tango from Argentina, in addition to other dramatic and musical performances * The series begins Aug. 31.
It starts with the comedy of Chicago City Limits, New York's longest running comedy revue, and ends April 19, 2008, with a musical take on some of Mark Twain's classic novels in "Huck and Tom and the Mighty Mississippi."
Tickets for individual performances go on sale Tuesday, July 31, and are available through the McCain box office at 532-6428 or online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain/
Student and children's individual performance tickets can be purchased at a reduced price. Discounts also are available for senior citizens, faculty and military personnel.
Performances in the 2007-2008 series include:
* Chicago City Limits, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. New York's longest running comedy revue has been delighting audiences for more than 25 years with its unique style of improvisational comedy.
* Tango Buenos Aires, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. The group is known throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of the tango.
* Jean-Frederic Neuburger, pianist, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28. Neuburger has appeared as soloist with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, Danish National Orchestra and the London Philharmonic.
* Kansas City Symphony and Kansas City Chorus, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7. The group will be performing Rossini's "Overture to The Barber of Seville," Beethoven's "Symphony No. 2" and Durufle's "Requiem."
* The Spencers: Masters of Illusion magic show, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20. "Magicians Kevin and Cindy Spencer reach beyond the realm of a magic show and into the world of theatrical spectacle," according to a review by the Fort Worth (Texas) Star Telegram.
* Solid Blues concert, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28. Solid Blues brings together Mavis Staples, Charlie Musslewhite, the North Mississippi Allstars and Joe Krown in their first tour together.
* "Peter Pan -- The Broadway Musical," 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. A musical for the entire family, the fun filled adventure features lost boys, pirates, Captain Hook and the boy who won't grow up -- Peter Pan.
* "Babes in Toyland," 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. Set at the turn of the 20th century, Victor Herbert's timeless musical classic for the entire family weaves fantasy and reality.
* "Giselle," 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. One of the most popular ballets of all time, this ballet has featured some of the best dancers in its leading roles since its creation.
* "Forbidden Broadway," 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008. This musical provides a comical history of the American musical theater.
* The Amedeo Modigliani Quartet, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15. The instrumental group has been praised by Le Progres of France for its "stunning technical expertise, outstanding ensemble and a particularly accomplished musical identity." The group won the 2006 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York.
* "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. Tennessee Williams' play was hailed by the New York Post as "one of the most successful plays of our time. A play of tremendous dramatic impact and enormous theatrical power."
* Daxun Zhang, double bassist, 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, in K-State's All Faiths Chapel. The Washington Post said, "If the bass is finally to produce a headliner, the instrument can have no better champion than Zhang."
* "Gypsy," 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 11. One of the greatest Broadway musicals of the 20th century, the big, brassy and funny show packs a powerful wallop.
* "Huck and Tom and the Mighty Mississippi," 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19. The greatest young adventurers in American literature spring to life in this foot-stompin' musical based on the novels of Mark Twain.
