DEROUCHEY HONORED BY SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY
Joel DeRoucheyJoel DeRouchey, animal sciences and industry professor, has been named the recipient of South Dakota State University Young Alumni Award.

DeRouchey grew up in Pukwana, S.D. He earned a degree in animal science from SDSU in 1997, and master's and Ph.D. degrees in swine nutrition from K-State.

He joined K-State's faculty in 2001 and was promoted to full professor in 2010. He currently spends 20 percent of his time teaching and 80 percent in research and extension work with K-State Research and Extension.

DeRouchey works as a member of an applied swine Extension team and several state and regional animal manure management teams. He has authored or co-authored journal articles, abstracts, and research reports and has been issued one patent. As a primary or co-investigator he has received $1.3 million for applied swine research, $1.4 million for environmental research and education, and $2.1 million in gifts and gifts in-kind.

Twice in the last three years he received an Outstanding Young Scientist Award from the Midwest section of the American Society of Animal Science. He was selected for the Extension award in 2008 and the Research award in 2010.

"Receiving just one of these awards is a great honor. To receive it in two different areas is exceptional, and I know of only one other person in the last 25 years who has done that," said Bob Thaler, nominator of DeRouchey for the award and professor of animal science at SDSU.

 

Katie Kingery-PageKINGERY-PAGE HONORED WITH GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY EDUCATION AWARD
Katie Kingery-Page, assistant professor of landscape architecture/regional and community planning, received the 2010 Grassroots Community Education Award from the UFM Community Learning Center for her role in the Northview Elementary School Learning Garden.

 

CRAIG ELECTED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AWARDS COMMITTEE OF TEXTILE SOCIETY OF AMERICA
Geraldine CraigGeraldine Craig, head of the art department at K-State, was elected to the board of directors for the Textile Society of America at the international symposium at the University of Nebraska Lincoln on Oct. 6-9, 2010.

Craig was also elected to co-chair the awards committee.

The Textile Association of America is an organization of textile scholars, museum curators and textile artists from around the world.
