NRES Governing Board
NRES is administered by a director and interdisciplinary governing board elected from faculty teaching NRES courses. Board members serve three-year terms and elections are held each spring semester.
Meet the NRES Director
My name is Shawn Hutchinson and I am a professor in the Department of Geography and Geospatial Sciences and current director of the NRES Secondary Major. I , along with eight other K-State faculty members, comprise the NRES Governing Board that oversees the program including its curriculum, student learning outcomes, and capstone course experience.
NRES was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in 1992 and was the first interdisciplinary program established at Kansas State University. Nearly 900 students from 8 colleges and over 40 primary majors have earned the secondary major and are using their expertise in a diverse array of career fields.
Board members are elected each spring from the group of faculty teaching NRES block elective courses and have a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues having similar research interests and to positively shape a successful interdisciplinary program designed to help students make significant contributions to environmental science, sustainability, and stewardship of natural resources.
