PEARS

The Program Evaluation And Reporting System (PEARS) is a web-based data-management system built and maintained by OEIE. PEARS helps nutrition education professionals and Extension administrators manage program data and demonstrate impact. It is currently used in 37 states, and growing!

History

After several years collaborating with K-State Research and Extension and the Kansas SNAP-Ed program to provide evaluation services and capacity building, OEIE developed a modern data management system with an increased emphasis on evaluation. This system, originally named the KSRE Program Impacts Collection System (K-PICS), featured a user-friendly interface with tools to track survey responses and other evaluation data related to extension and nutrition education efforts.

In 2015, K-PICS became PEARS and was adopted by 8 additional states in the SNAP-Ed Mountain Plains region. Since then, a dedicated team of evaluators and technology professionals have continued to enhance and support PEARS as an innovative tool for tracking program efforts and impact.

Demonstrating Impact

Now, more than ever, it is critical to highlight the collective impacts of Extension and nutrition education efforts.

PEARS tracks details about agent and educator activities such as:

• Systems and environmental changes

Administrators can monitor progress and quickly pull data to assess impact and promote a culture of continual improvement. Additional tools help streamline annual funding agency reports such as EARS and NIFA Plans of Work. Management tools help track professional development, action plans, and annual performance reviews. Ongoing additions to PEARS are developed in partnership with our clients and evaluation professionals.

A well-designed and responsive interface makes data entry as seamless as possible. Further, a team of knowledgeable IT support professionals provide training and technical assistance in-person as well as via phone and email.
