Dr. Kudzai Mukumbi, Zimbabwe is a Fulbright Scholar currently hosted by Iowa State (ISU) for Plant Pathology but coming to KSU with an emphasis in Ag Extension.

While studying extension in the U.S., since the fall of 2024, Dr. Kudzai Mukumbi has visited with extension personnel all over ISU campus. This spring semester she is finishing up with a paper and a research proposal.

One requirement of her scholarship is to visit other universities in the U.S. which include institutions in geographically underrepresented states, such as Kansas. This 2-5 day visit would occur during the Spring 2025 semester.

Her visit purpose is to:

  • Share my specific research interests in best practices in extension and outreach: lessons from land grant institution
  • Learn more about extension programs at the institution
  • Speak on the history and culture of my home country, Zimbabwe
  • Exchange ideas with students, faculty, and community organizations

Proposed Activities

  1. Academic/Cultural lecture(s):focused on my research/area of expertise and/or a topic related to my home country/culture.
  2. Fulbright Program-focused event(s)where students and faculty can learn about my Fulbright experience and about Fulbright opportunities. These activities should be coordinated with a Fulbright Program Advisor or Fulbright Scholar Liaison on campuses which have them. Local chapters of the Fulbright Association (the organization of Fulbright Alumni) and on-campus and local Fulbright alumni groups and stakeholders should also be informed of planned events in their area.
  3. Community engagement(s): engaging the broader local community where institutions of higher education are embedded.
  4. Other potential activities: tours of the host institution; opportunities for networking meetings with faculty, students, administrators; and additional lectures or activities at nearby institutions.
