Fulbright logo - offers opportunities to study, teach, conduct research, and carry out projects in more than 160 countries worldwide. While there are many types of awards, this page provides an overview of the most common programs. Which type of Fulbright is for you?

Australia Initiatives at K-State

  • Australian-American Fulbright Commission Kansas State University is proud to be the first U.S. educational institutional partner of the Australian-American Fulbright Commission. An agreement gives two Australian researchers the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research at Kansas State University every year. Forging new connections between Australia and the U.S. is the program's goal. These scholars will build and develop partnerships and friendships through mutual understanding and education and cultural exchanges.

      • K-State hosts a Distinguished Chair in Agriculture and Life Sciences each year and is awarded to an eminent Australian scholar. This opportunity is for an internationally renowned researcher in the area of agriculture or life sciences.
      • K-State hosts a Australian Fulbright Senior Scholar each year and the awardee may work with faculty in any academic discipline found at Kansas State University. Some of the eligible disciplines are agriculture, architecture, engineering, the arts and humanities, the sciences and veterinary medicine.
    • Oz to Oz: Building connections between Australia and Kansas

      As programs between Australian universities and Kansas State University grow, a network of faculty is essential to their long-term success. Kansas State University will have to expand its contacts in Australia.

      • Oz to Oz will send faculty from Kansas State University to Australia

      • Oz to Oz Australian Fulbrighter’s visit K-State to share their perspectives and knowledge by serving as seminar speakers. K-State departments and faculty members are designated as hosts for this funded opportunity.

Shamrock K-State and Ireland - It's More than a Game - Ireland Global Engagement

Teach English Abroad - Get your TEFL Certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) to open the possibility of getting paid to teach English and travel around the world. ESL Cafe provides resources and guides for certification programs and teaching abroad jobs.

Gap-Year Programs - Boost your personal and professional development before entering the traditional “working world” by participating in a gap year program. These post-grad experiences may include opportunities to intern, work, volunteer, or learn another language. Explore programs through GoOverseas and CIEE.

Work Abroad - Finding a job abroad can require knowledge of different countries’ cultural practices and job application expectations. Every K-State student has access to a Handshake Account through the K-State Career Center with resources like GoinGlobal to search for jobs on a global scale and access country specific career guides. Search USA Jobs for federal employment opportunities around the world. .

English Language Programs - Resources for working with multilingual students, Student Learning Center (SLC), ELP Tutoring Center, Conversations with Kansans, Special Programs and Development, Open Course Development, Campus Engagement - Bring the world to K-State Classrooms,

International Student and Scholar Services - Basic Language Training (BLT), International Speakers Bureau (ISB), Coffee Hour, International Coordinating Council (ICC), International Buddies, International Student Associations, International Flag Rental, Sponsored Students,

International Collaboration - Research and Faculty Collaborations, Development Opportunitites, International Agreements, Co-teaching, Development Opportunities, Faculty Development, Professional Organizations in Internation Education,

International Education Week - The Office of International Programs (OIP) hosts this collaborative event that provides and opportunity to recognize, advance and elevate international awareness across the K-State campus through a variety of events.

International Buddies (IBuddies) - pairs local K-State students, staff, and community members with international students, scholars and family members every fall and spring semesters. Once paired, Buddies meet regularly to learn about each others' cultures, customs, and explore Manhattan & K-State.

International Coordinating Council (ICC) - working together to promote cultural understanding. ICC works with the international student organizations at K-State and various groups in the Manhattan community, to celebrate diversity and host cultural events. ICC provides guidance to international students and also serves as a voice for international students at the university level.

International Service Teams (IST) - works with international communities in identifying a need and developing a project to meet that need. The projects are completed by an interdisciplinary team of K-State students. The students work to engage in community outreach, civic leadership and cross-cultural communication skills while developing their capacity to serve as a team, understand the ethical implications of international community development and engage in a transformational leadership through service experience.

Service Learning Opportunities - works with the non-governmental organization (NGO) Natün Guatemala to provide students with individualized service-learning opportunities. Depending on your area of interest and language ability, you may end up working with Natün Guatemala itself or they will coordinate your work with a different organization.

Vernon Larson Lecture - Vernon Carl Larson was an international visionary who built K-State's International Agriculture Programs through projects in Nigeria, India, the Philippines and elsewhere throughout the world. Once K-State's Office of International Programs (OIP) was created, he led it through many years of successful growth and expansion.
