Known definitive hosts: sharks, skates,
and rays; this specimen is from the round stingray, Urolophus
halleri
Site of infection: spiral valve
Typical size: variable; often fairly small
Distribution: trypanorhynchs are
worldwide in marine waters and go wherever their hosts go; this specimen
was taken from a stingray in the Gulf of California.
First intermediate
host: the few life-cycles that have been described have
demonstrated procercoids in copepods
Second intermediate host: the few
life-cycles that have been described have shown teleost fish to harbor the
pleurocercoids
