About Us

Our department is built around sixteen faculty and staff members dedicated to scholarship and student learning. The faculty publish in top journals in the discipline of political science, serve on editorial boards for journals and advisory committees for the Kansas government, and have secured grants with the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Chapman Center. In addition to being highly productive scholars, our faculty have received awards both in teaching and research consecutively for the last five years. Our academic advisor, Kathy Lillich, has also been recognized as outstanding in her service to students as they pursue their academic, professional, and personal goals.

In relation to the commitment we have to our students, the department has an established Undergraduate Student Council, made up of fifteen political science majors. The council serves as a bridge between the department and the students, addressing needs and enhancing the intellectual life of the undergraduate community. Many of our students (both undergraduate and graduate) are also engaged with student organizations and honor societies associated with political science.

For undergraduates, the department offers a B.A. or B.S. in Political Science, as well as two accelerated degree programs with Security Studies and Public Administration, that allow students to earn their bachelor's and master's in a fraction of the time. We also have several secondary majors, minors, and other specialized curricula that are available to students working concurrently with the political science major.

For those continuing their education, we offer graduate degree programs in Public Administration (MPA and Certificate) and Security Studies (M.A. and Ph.D.). These degrees are designed to support pre-career and mid-career students in reaching their professional goals.
