Letter about the Virginia Tech Basketball Game and Affected Schedules
Dear faculty, staff and students:
This year our home basketball schedule includes a men's basketball game with Virginia Tech at 3 p.m., Tuesday, November 16. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our university and basketball program since the game will be nationally telecast on ESPN as part of their College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
Obviously, a Tuesday afternoon game poses some unique challenges for our academic schedule, which will not change due to the basketball game. Classes will be in session as usual for the entire day as will evening classes. All classified and non-classified staff are expected to maintain their normal working hours. Student-athletes, cheerleaders, pep band members, student managers and others who may have activities associated with the game are responsible for alerting professors in a timely manner in advance of the absence and for coordinating make-up of any work or tests missed during the absence.
Traffic on and around campus, particularly near Bramlage Coliseum, will be heightened as fans arrive for the game. We have been informed by Athletics that normal basketball parking procedures will be in place for lots at the Sports Complex. Basketball parking will open at 1:30 p.m., 90 minutes prior to tipoff.
All faculty, staff and students are asked to be aware and allow extra time and caution as they move about campus that afternoon and early evening. Safety for all fans is important.
We are looking forward to a great basketball game – Go Cats!
