Process and Procedures for Nominations for the University Distinguished Faculty Award for Mentoring of Undergraduate Students in Research
Purpose of Award
This University Distinguished Faculty Award for Mentoring of Undergraduate Students in Research has been established to recognize outstanding individual contributions to the development of undergraduates in research projects at Kansas State University.
Eligibility
The award, given to a faculty member at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor, will be based upon the mentoring of an undergraduate researcher in the previous academic year and will encompass spring, summer, and fall semesters prior to the award semester.
Presentation of Award
The recipient will receive an inscribed plaque and an award of $4,000.
Criteria for Nomination
Criteria include one or more of the following:
- Ongoing scholarly activity by the faculty member and demonstrated support of students' professional and scholarly development (e.g.: peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other scholarly activities).
- Mentoring activities (e.g.: engaging students with other undergraduates, faculty, and professional organizations; scholarship support; pre-professional activities; post-baccalaureate applications).
- Successful and inclusive recruitment (e.g.: of other faculty to mentor undergraduate researchers, including students from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups).

Faculty who are eligible for this award may be nominated by KSU faculty, students, staff, or administrators. Finalists will be invited for an interview. All application materials should be sent electronically in .pdf format to provounivawards@k-state.edu. The application deadline is February 1.
