BACKGROUND

 

PRSA has more than 6,000 members in 209 chapters on college campuses throughout the United States.

In 1968, PRSA founded PRSSA. The purpose of PRSSA was to cultivate a favorable and mutually adventageous relationship between students and professional public relations practiconers. On April 4, 1968, PRSA Board Of Directors created the first chapters at nine schools which met charter requirements. These requirements included offering a minimum of two public relations courses. These schools included the University of Florida, University of Houston, University of Maryland, University of South California, University of Texas at Austin, Ohio State, San Jose State, Utica College and West Virginia University. The total chapter membership at this time was 196. There have been approximately 81,000 PRSSA members since that date.
