NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates
The NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates, or REU, program supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by NSF. These projects involve students in meaningful ways in ongoing research programs or in research projects specifically designed for the REU program.
REU sites are coordinated programs based on an independent proposal to initiate and conduct projects that engage a number of students in research. REU supplements may be included by individual investigators as a component of proposals for new or to renewal NSF grants or cooperative agreements. If awarded, the researcher is not obligated to be part of the site program, but if chooses to do so, he/she can make use of the site's recruiting network and other student group activities that are part of that site REU program.
K-State currently has two REU sites that offer 10-week summer research opportunities for undergraduate students. Each program conducts its own student selection and deadlines for application may vary. Under NSF guidelines, applicants must be American citizens or permanent residents, and must be returning to their undergraduate studies after completion of their summer research.
