University and industry communication: How to build effective communication between faculty and industry colleagues

The K-State Global Food Systems Initiative hosted a virutal workshop about effective communication between faculty and industry colleagues.
Industry experts from companies including BASF, Bay State Milling and KPM Analytics joined K-State faculty members to discuss how to first meet and build connections with those working in industry, the importance of listening to them to learn about their needs and how to convey the unique value you might add to meet the needs of an industry partner.

"The Unthinkable" - Keep Calm and Carry On

The K-State Global Food Systems Initiative and National Agricultural Biosecurity Center hosted a panel discussion about disaster preparedness for the K-State and Manhattan communities.
How do we react when the unthinkable happens — when the power grid goes down, cyber connections are stopped or a devastating tornado hits? The panelists discussed how a crisis could begin, what it means to be prepared, how far following the “science” can take us and the psychological impact during and after a crisis.

Food Safety Workshop: Current research and future needs of meat safety

Global Food Systems welcomed Dr. Melanie Abley, deputy director risk management and innovations staff as the Food Safety and Inspection Serivce in the U.S. Department of Agriculture to discuss technologies for major challenges that the USDA forsees as the population grows. This workshop aimed to inspire discussion between colleges to take an interdisciplinary approach to research and solving problems.
