Congratulations to department head, Yolanda Broyles-González, on her book publication Mario Barradas & Son Jarocho. The Journey of a Mexican Regional Music. University of Texas Press. Co-authors include Francisco González and Rafael Figueroa Hernández. The book is being translated into Spanish and is due to become a transnational publication of the Editorial de la Universidad Veracruzana.

Dr. David Robles contributed a chapter is the 2022 recipient of the Oral History Association's Best Book Award. The book, "Civil Rights in Black and Brown: Histories of Resistance and Struggle in Texas," was published by the University of Texas Press in 2022.

Exciting News...Dr. Padilla Carroll's new book: Who Gets to Go Back-to-the-Land?: Gender and Race in U.S. Self-Sufficiency Popular Culture will be officially on bookshelves in December.

September 2022

Dr. Maria Vallejo has been accepted to the spring 2023 NEH-AHRC Spanish Paleography and Digital Humanities Institute hosted by the Benson Library at the University of Texas, Austin. The online institute will provide participants with practical training in the reading and visualization of 16th- to 18th-century manuscripts in Spanish.

Thank you to everyone who came out to help celebrate Dr. Angela Hubler at her retirement celebration after 32 years of service in the Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies department.

Our end of year celebration was a huge hit. We recognized graduating AMETH, GWSS, and Queer Studies students, our scholarship recipients, winners of the GWSS essay contest, and inductees into the Iota Iota Iota Honor Society.
